The renowned company Carcano Antonio S.p.A. has recently reached a significant milestone by successfully rolling the first coil on a newly modernized Achenbach OPTIMILL® Foil Rolling Mill. The rolling mill, which has its origins in the 1950s, had already undergone various technological conversions in 1994, 2000, 2001 and 2008 before Achenbach was commissioned with the comprehensive modernization.
The modernization includes the complete Achenbach OPTIROLL® i3 package for rolling mill automation. This package offers efficient model-based control functions, including high-precision strip Thickness Control (Mill Gauge) and highly dynamic Strip Flatness Control (Mill Flat), to optimally control the entire rolling process. In addition, the rolling mill was equipped with an Achenbach UniSpray® Coolant Distribution System for strip flatness regulation in the rolling process and an Achenbach UniMark Roll Mark Detection System for the early detection of foil surface defects. This innovative system contributes significantly to the reduction of rejects and thus considerably improves the amortization rate of the system. A key part of the project was also the installation of the cloud-based Achenbach OPTILINK® System to optimize the production process.
The successful modernization was not least due to the outstanding cooperation and excellent team spirit with the entire Carcano team. This cooperation enabled a smooth and shortened shutdown and conversion of the rolling mill. We value our long-standing relationship with Carcano Antonio S.p.A. and look forward to continuing our successful cooperation.
