University of Siegen awards Axel E. Barten an honorary doctorate

Our long-standing Managing Partner Axel E. Barten was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Siegen. He was honoured for his special services to the field of mechanical engineering at a ceremony in the Bernd Schadeberg lecture theatre, which was attended by representatives from science, politics, companions and his family. Siegen's Rector Stefanie Reese recognised Barten as an impressive entrepreneur of integrity who more than deserved this title, which is only awarded very rarely. Not only his engineering achievements as the basis of the company's success, but above all his extraordinary commitment to the next generation of engineers and the networking of university and industry were more than enough reason to honour him. ‘Hardly anyone fulfils the requirements for this special honour better than Axel Barten,’ emphasised Reese. In his laudatory speech, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Scharf used the complex technology of rolling and cutting ultra-thin films, in which Achenbach specialises, to highlight Barten's special engineering achievements.

Barten himself focused his keynote speech on the future opportunities, but also the challenges for the engineering sciences as a result of the digital transformation, emphasising the important role of the university. He concluded his speech with an appeal to the university: ‘Make sure that the hopes and expectations of companies and start-ups are fulfilled in the best possible way. Make something of it!’
We are very proud of our senior boss and congratulate him on this special honour!
