Milestones in the company’s development
Generations of family entrepreneurs and their employees, sharing pride in the company’s product and history as well as unfailing hard work, have made the company Achenbach Buschhütten what it is today: a strong independent family business and a world market leader in aluminium thin strip and foil rolling mills.
The past 555 years of the company’s development not only reflect the technical development of a big industrial branch but also the structural development of a region, that of native Siegerland. Some decisive milestones of Achenbach are:
- 1452: founding of a water wheel driven hammer mill by the three Busch brothers and their descendents
- 1846: conversion to a modern functioning iron foundry
- End of 19th century: transition from supplying cast iron products forhousehold
and agricultural purposes to production of rolls for use in industry - 1888: production of the first rolling mill for iron sheets; continual development of rolling mill technology
- 1911: construction of the first aluminium sheet rolling mill
- 1927: invention of coiling and de-coiling enabling transition from plate rolling to strip rolling
- 1945: specialisation in the construction of rolling mills for non-ferrous metals; expansion from domestic to global markets
- 1970’s: far-sighted development of rolling oil filtration technology and air purification technology in response to increasing attention to environmental issues
- Late 1970’s: harnessing the information technology revolution by developing its own rolling mill control technology
- Late 1980’s: development of aluminium foil rolling mills with widths of over 2000 mm and rolling speeds of more than 2000 m/min
- Early 1990’s: design of state-of-the-art technology for production plants for rolling non-ferrous metals
- 2006: extension of the production programme to slitting machines for thin strips and foils.
