„Sawatdii khaa“
Third graders gave a warm welcome to Thai customers
In its seventh year now two dozen pupils of the neighboring primary school have just visited Achenbach in order to get a direct impression of everyday’s work. This year, they joined the commissioning of a big aluminium foil slitting machine in the presence of the Thai customer. The machine is scheduled to be delivered soon. With this machine aluminium coils are cut into narrow strips for further processing. They are the raw material for products such as yogurt lids, radiator grille slats for cars etc. The Thai customers obviously enjoyed meeting the pupils who welcomed them with a very loud “Sawatdii khaa” for the girls and a “Sawatdii khap” for the boys including the correct gesture in their mother tongue; it was Mr. Dietrich who taught them to do so.
The project “Sachen machen bei Achenbach” is part of the MINT promotion which has been systematically run since 2006 between the company and the primary school. In past years, third graders and Achenbach trainees built an interactive experimentation station, they made filtration experiments and milled and engraved small workpieces in the training workshop; even the district president of Arnsberg came once.
“The knowledge quiz proved this year again”, Dr. Gabriele Barten added, “that children were very well prepared in school.” This year it was for the first time that particular emphasis was placed on the industrial history of the Siegerland as an iron land. “I was astonished”, she continued, “how perfectly the children could draw an iron hammer such as “Busch’s foundry.” Actually, this knowledge quiz only had winners, but three children distinguished themselves particularly: Zinab Sheikhi, Inga Sauer and Enzo-Luca Tavera; they claimed the first three places and won a kid’s engineering set, a white cuddle Easter Bunny and a kid’s scuba unit.
“Laa goon nakkha” in 2013 - meaning “See you next year”!
