Drive Technology
DC Drives
The DC drive technology has been well proven for years. Its advantage is that the torque-producing current can be measured and controlled at the same time so that a high-dynamic and precise control of speed and torque is easily possible. The precise strip tensions, required especially for rolling of foil, are thus provided over a wide operating range.
AC Drives
The continual development of controlled AC drives, such as vector control and DTC direct torque control, makes it possible to use AC drives today even in foil rolling mills, where best constancy of the torque, also with lowest strip tensions, and high drive dynamics are of great importance. Compared with the DC drive technology, the AC drives are advantageous for maintenance since their commutation is made without carbon brushes.
Master Speed Control
The digital drive technology is integrated into the mill automation system via a master speed control. This master speed control is implemented into a process-oriented module, being part of the PLC, and controlled via the integrated operating and visualization system of the rolling mill.
